What makes the world call Van Gogh and lets say Andy Warhol, an “Artist”?

I’m thinking about Van Gogh’s mother and brother. The world considers
him a great artist with a passion and an obsession to paint and get his
emotions out onto the canvas. If he lived today would be thought of as
a great artist or a loser? What did his mother think of him? His
brother believed in him and kept him in paint and paid the rent, but
his art did not sell when he was alive.

Hmmmm, what makes the world call Van Gogh and lets say Andy Warhol, an
“Artist”? Why does their art sell for such high prices? Is it because
their art is great and the people buying it want to look at it for
hours on end and maybe show off to their friends? Is it because the art
they just bought will increase in value and was a very good business
decision? Do you think Van Gogh secretly needed glasses or could he see
the world deeper than the average guy?

So was his work “art” or by the brilliance of his brother’s wife
marketed to the world as great art? If so then would it be a product?

I wonder what his mom thought?

Was he trying to please himself, his mother, his brother or maybe just
a little mad?

In any case, he was not a good business man.

Well, I’m freezing, and going back to my warm bed and dream of colorful
swirling clouds and Sunflowers in a bright field. I sure am glad I have
those images in my head!

I love you son!
